How to Spend An Ultimate Week in Sicily, Italy

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, is home to a variety of lively cities, historic sites, varied scenery, and flavorful cuisine. It would be hard to fit everything Sicily has to offer into a week, so we've selected the highlights to assist you in creating a travel plan. I strongly advise seeing only one (or maybe two) regions in Sicily if you only have a week there rather than trying to fit too much in.

Day 1,2: Drive north to Taormina and Cefal from Catania.

Your seven-day visit will begin by traveling north from Catania to the Mt. Etna region, where you can see the biggest active volcano in Europe. Before enjoying wine tasting in the mountain's shadow or continuing down the beach, hike the active volcano or take a trip to the top.

Drive straight to Taormina, a town perched on a hill and the most famous location in all of Sicily. One of Sicily's most picturesque towns, this is the spot to go for a stroll in the early evening, an aperitivo at one of the trendy pubs, or supper at one of the many restaurants.

To see Celaf's white sand beaches and honey-colored buildings, keep travelling down the coast. This mediaeval seaside town is renowned for its mosaics and Norman-Arabic architecture. Day 3: Drive south from Catania to Syracuse.

Rent a car when you get to Catania, then leave the city behind as you drive to the picturesque beauty of the southeast coast. Day 4. Palermo

Palermo is a bustling, vibrant city with strong Byzantine and Arab influences. It boasts Italy's largest opera theatre, is a colourful blend of the contemporary and the old, and provides a wide variety of culinary treats.

Day 5: Agrigento & Selinunte

Some of the best preserved Greek temples outside of Athens can be found in Selinunte and Agrigento. We thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent temples, well-kept old cities, and archaeological ruins at both locations as we spent a whole day touring them. Being able to wander amid temples built approximately 2500 years ago was simply mind-blowing.

Day 6: Erice and Segesta

Day 7: Beach

To visit Sicily and skip a day at the beach would be regrettable. If you stroll towards the island's base, Ortigia also offers a beach if you don't want to venture too far.

A trip to the nearby Cava Grande is a fantastic experience if you'd prefer to forgo the beach and be a little more daring.
